Norvasc (amlodipine) is a prescription medication used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and certain types of chest pain. Lowering this blood pressure reduces symptoms like heart palpitations, fast heart rate, and dizziness. This medicine may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
Norvasc comes in the form of a tablet and belongs to a class of drugs known as calcium channel blockers. It works by relaxing blood vessels and increasing blood flow to the lungs. This medicine will only help lower blood pressure if taken as prescribed. In adults, taking Norvasc at least 60 minutes before exercise should be considered as an activity that helps lower blood pressure. Do not take Norvasc if you are also taking calcium channel blockers for heart problems. Your doctor will do a blood test to check for calcium levels in your blood. If you have been told by your doctor that you have high blood pressure, your doctor may increase your Norvasc dose to 5 mg or decrease it to 2 mg.
How to Take Norvasc
